The “₣” (franc symbol) was proposed by Édouard Balladur, the French State Minister of Economy, Finances and Privatisation, in 1988.Balladur, 1988.
Édouard’s symbol show an “F” with an extra crossbar, however many fonts render the character as a compressed “Fr”. The reason for this is unclear.Jacquerye, 2017.
The franc symbol was encoded in the first version of Unicode,Unicode Consortium, 1991. but never actually put to use.Haralambous, 2004.
