The Norwegian National Library catalogs a number of manuscripts after Jens Andreas Friis (1821–96), a professor of Sámi and Finnish language and culture at the University of Oslo. Among them is an undated collection of notes on the Kven language, the language which had developed among Finnish-speaking immigrants from the Tornedalen valley and surrounding areas that settled in Northern Norway during the 18th and early 19th century.
