1/7

The first version of Riks with lettering styled after Functionalist ideals: The “N” is spiky, “O” perfectly circular, and the “E” and “F” crossbars are dramatically lowered.

Georg Fredrik Fasting’s Riks was entered into Oslo Telefonanlegg’s 1932 competition for the design of a new telephone booth where it won the first price. Already in the production drawings from later that same year, the “TELEFON” lettering was simplified from the original sketch. From 1959 and onwards, the lettering was modified, with the sharp “N” filed down and the crossbars raised to conform to current taste.
