In 1900, the Norwegian linguist Marius Hægstad approached Low’s transcription of the Hildina Ballad in a more systematic manner, arguing that Low’s interpretation was colored by his native English.Rage, 2021. Working from the the original manuscript, Hægstad proposed a new spelling,Hægstad, 1900. along with a thorough phonologic analysis of the Shetland Norn dialect.Steintún, 2016.
